Moscow Five were crowned winners of the eSport Universe tournament in Moscow on Sunday, scoring a little over $2,100 for their efforts.
The tournament started Friday with a group stage, two groups of three teams, with top two advancing to the playoffs. In Group A, Moscow Five had no trouble to claim first place, winning their games against BURN and RESHETKA. Over in Group B, you would have expected Virtus.pro to come out on top, but that turned out not to be the case, as fbgaming surprised with a 16-11 win on de_dust2 to top the group.
In the playoffs Moscow Five and Virtus.pro faced each other in the semi-final, where Moscow Five once again proved a bit too much for Virtus.pro, winning 22-19 on de_inferno and 16-9 on de_tuscan to move on to the final. In the final they would face BURN, who had defeated fbgaming 2-1 in the second semi-final.
In the final Moscow Five once again proved to be the best Russian team for the time being, as BURN came no closer than any other teams in the tournament. Winning de_nuke 16-10 and de_tuscan 16-11, Moscow Five scored first place and the 60,000 rubles, which equals roughly $2,100. eSport Universe 2011 final standings 1. Moscow Five - $2,100 2.
